ABOUT RANA

I am in love with the world.

I love the rugged coasts, the towering peaks, and the deep forests. I'm happiest on road trips, hiking, wandering, and exploring, and I'll always return to the brilliant sunsets and shaded sandstone canyons of the desert southwest. I love flowers, decayed buildings, and the close-up. I love being miles away from anyone in the Nevada wilderness, and I love being surrounded by Kolkata's teeming millions. I love being the one who builds the visual record of my family and friends' lives. I intend this website to be a gloriously incomplete history of the places I've been and the people I've had the honor to meet; a glance through my eyes at a life as full of beauty as I can make it.

I've been obsessed with photography since I was in high school; I was one of those kids who built a darkroom in their basement, only emerging for meals grudgingly and squinty-eyed. I've always loved learning new tools and techniques. I've worked with 35mm, medium format, and view cameras, and alternative processes like platinum and palladium printing. These days I've discovered the joys of digital cameras and large format printers, which is rather convenient: my apartment wouldn't have the space for a darkroom.

If you are interested in purchasing a print of an image of mine, please write to me using the contact form, making sure to include the URL of the image as well as the size print you'd like, and I will get back to you with a customized quote. Prints are available in sizes from 5"x7" up to 40"x60" for select images. Unless a specific look is desired, all prints are made on Ilford Gold Fibre Silk, an archival baryta paper with the characteristics of classic silver halide fiber printing papers.
